June 7, 2007 Milpitas, CA - Nearly 2,000 pounds of food and other goods were recently collected and delivered to the Milpitas Food Pantry, thanks to Duran & Venables' First Annual Food Drive. A leading provider of grading and paving construction services in Northern California, Duran & Venables launched its week-long food drive to support community organizations like the Pantry that provide food and other necessities to individuals and families in need.
"Our company mission is to provide the best service and support to our customers and communities through various means-like our food drive," says Sean Venables, president of Duran & Venables. "Many years ago, our employees expressed a strong interest in pursuing these acts of kindness to promote teamwork and unity, while giving back to the community. Our food drive is one of many activities we're involved with that meet these goals."
Part of the Second Harvest Food Network, the Milpitas Food Pantry is an emergency food box program distributing food to low and no-income residents of Milpitas and Alviso. The Pantry serves approximately 300 households comprising about 900 individuals every month. Families range in size from one to 12. Services are also available to the homeless population.
At the end of the weeklong food drive, Duran & Venables' leaders hosted a barbeque at their location in Milpitas to thank employees and vendors for their efforts and contributions, and to present donations to the Pantry.
